These sessions are for children to come along with their parents/carers.

  • Please bring along any snacks and drinks that you and your child might want.

  • It is highly likely that children will get messy and / or muddy, so old clothes and perhaps a towel to protect your car seats for the journey home is a good idea!

  • We have hot water, dairy-free milk and tea and coffee available; if you could bring your own mug it would be very helpful.

  • Our site is partly accessible for pushchairs, with the path from the gate to main gate quite flat. However, you may wish to bring a babycarrier for any children not yet mobile, to be able to explore the whole site more easily as we are on a hill.

Clothing

Both adults and children will need appropriate outdoor clothing, including sturdy footwear, waterproofs and a change of clothes. Our site is on a hill and can get colder than the average park, and young children especially are susceptible to the cold even when we as adults feel fine. We recommend that every child has the following clothes outside of the summer months:

  • Thermal layer next to skin (can be human-made fibres or wool, avoid cotton as this absorbs moisture and makes skin colder)

  • Normal comfy clothes, two layers of these (eg a jumper / sweatshirt then light fleece, or a long sleeved top then sweater; leggings then joggers) so that one can be removed if necessary

  • Wind and water proof layer - look for the thicker fabric which is totally waterproof rather than thin flimsy fabric. Lidl or Aldi are great for these, when they are in stock.

A blog post with more information about clothing is here.

We have an outdoor clothing library box for you to borrow any outdoor clothing your child needs, for as long as you need it, located in the Children's Section of Cullompton Library. Please take what you need and we are also happy to accept donations there of outdoor gear for kids!
